Milano Tile in Abuja

A detached house on the outskirts of Abuja, where the roof plane is large and mostly seen from the road. Milano was chosen for the dense small barrel: it breaks up the surface so a 310 m² roof does not read as one flat sheet.

The dry season here is hard on finishes. Harmattan wind carries fine grit for weeks, and UV stays high year round. Stone granules are what take that wear, which is why the surface still measures inside colour tolerance after three seasons.

The roof was laid over an existing timber truss with a 20 mm air gap, so the panels are not sitting directly on the timber and the attic stays ventilated in the hot months.
