Roman Tile in Cebu
Mactan, Cebu, Philippines · Terracotta · 240 m²

A Spanish-colonial style house on Mactan Island, 300 m from the water, where the old clay roof had gone porous and was leaking at the valleys. Roman in Terracotta was the closest thing to the original look at a seventh of the weight.
Salt is the whole story on this coast. Every fixing is 304 stainless, the cut edges at hips and valleys are touched up on site, and the panels sit on a ventilated batten so salt-laden air does not stay against the underside.
The barrel profile still reads as clay from the road, which is what the owners cared about. The house sits in a heritage-adjacent zone where a flat metal roof would not have been approved.
