Shingle Tile in Manila

A two-storey family house in Rizal, east of Metro Manila, re-roofed in our Shingle profile after the original galvanised sheets rusted through at the laps. Twenty-two typhoon seasons had taken the zinc coating down to bare steel.

Manila gets around twenty tropical cyclones a year, so the fixing pattern matters more than the panel itself. Every tile is screwed six times, the eave row is doubled, and the ridge is strapped rather than clipped. The 25-degree pitch matches the rest of the street.

The Shingle profile was chosen for the flat, low-shadow look the neighbours already have, and the Charcoal finish hides the dust that comes with the dry season.
