Bond Tile in Lagos

Two semi-detached houses in Lekki, roofed from a single 40-foot container. Both sat on one site, so the developer ordered tiles, ridge caps, barge boards and screws together and cleared them once.

Lagos is hot, humid and close to the Atlantic. Terracotta was chosen to sit with the laterite soil and the older roofs around Lekki, and the granule surface does not streak the way smooth painted metal does on this coast.

The installation crew had not worked with stone-coated steel before. Two days on site covered the fixing pattern, the ridge detail and how to cut and touch up at the hips, and the second house went on twice as fast as the first.
